Alter Schwede!

Part of Norm 2.0’s photo challenge Thursday Doors.

Thank you for visiting.

Why *Old Swede*? Alter Schwede! is an exclamation of surprise or dismay like Great Scott! While I can’t imagine Sir Walter Scott ever made it to Wismar, this town in the North of Germany was often visited by Swedes in the past and probably still is.

Der Wismarer Dingsbums-Brunnen and Princess Diana

Whatever fountain trifft es gut, denn ich habe keine Ahnung, welcher Fachbegriff aus dem Brunnenbau-Vokabular hier passt.

There was no-one I could ask, as I was only passing through and in a hurry. Also, wie heißen denn solche Wasserrinnen mitten in der Stadt?

The second example, the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain, looks much more inviting, weather permitting.

This is part of Fountain Series hosted by Polianthus. Today the whatever-you-like (quodlibet 🙂 ) week starts.

Thank you for visiting.

Thursday Doors – wenn es brennt

The last resort might be the door to this little coop. You might even consider hiring a bike afterwards.

The building in the background is a little railway station – without facilities (I think – I didn’t need them). Of course I might be completely wrong. Perhaps this is a private phone booth for a taxi company? Or the last resort for a desperate driver?

This is my contribution to Norm Frampton’s weekly photo challenge Thursday Doors.

Thank you, Norm! And thank you all for stopping by.
