Ilmbjörk – Sunday Trees 286

Part of Becca Givens’s photo challenge SundayTrees 286. Thank you, Becca, for hosting the challenge and thank you all for visiting my blog. 🙂

I suppose you all know Björk from Iceland and what her name actually means?

I wasn’t surprised at all to see so many birches in Iceland, although they looked so different. The wood or rather the trunks all had a reddish hue. Some looked more like shrubs than trees, but a birch is a birch is a birch…

So this Icelandic variety is called ilmbjörk by the natives, Moorbirke in my language and dendrologists know it as Betula  pubescens.
