For Ruth (and Others…)

Dreht er sich um und zeigte itzt

Die Seite, wo der Wedel sitzt.

Wilhelm Busch

Here you are, dear Ruth. 🙂

Der blaue Hahn by Katharina Fritsch auf dem vierten Sockel (on the fourth plinth) in Trafalgar Square, London. The blue cock was supposed to be the last sculpture, so I’m glad the tradition is continued after all.

Porta Gallica – Thursday Doors

Why is this a Gallican door? Because… Porta omnis divisa est in partes tres. And why can I only present this door in three parts, top, central and bottom part? Because of road works it wasn’t possible to take a shot from a reasonable distance. (Aside: Caesar, I really didn’t like your book on that war – I found it utterly boring and sided with your enemies! Too much bragging for my taste. You were a terrible narcissist and Brutus an honourable man.)

Territorial Terror or Just an Error?

Today a Tory named Terri

Didn’t feel terribly merry.

She had voted no

Some time ago

And is now leaving for Kerry… 😦

So as from today it’s them and us again – as if there were no common ground. How is this possible?

CFFC Hilde, du Wilde …!

„Hilde, du Wilde,

Was führst du im Schilde?“

„Du bist nicht im Bilde!

Nichts führ ich im Schilde.

Ich bin doch soooo milde …“

So milde wie das Wetter im Augenblick.

The big city park is called Planten un Blomen, plants and flowers, which obviously didn’t stop visitors to park their unwanted turtles there. They can’t be fined, because the creatures have no number-plates. In winter (which can be very harsh) they probably find it hard to survive, but in spring and summer they seem to adapt to their unnatural surroundings.

For Auld Lang Syne

Snowed under (with work, not the real thing), so too busy for blogging, but…

And today, surprise, surprise! I had to translate a passage about Andy Stewart  introducing „a popular folk-duo“ on the White Heather Club in 1958. Guess who they were? Right! Thankfully, there’s YouTube! Here’s my old LP, We Belong to Glasgow:

featuring Robin Hall and Jimmie MacGregor
