I wasn’t surprised at all to see so many birches in Iceland, although they looked so different. The wood or rather the trunks all had a reddish hue. Some looked more like shrubs than trees, but a birch is a birch is a birch…
So this Icelandic variety is called ilmbjörk by the natives, Moorbirke in my language and dendrologists know it as Betula pubescens.
