Mac & cheese never made my mouth water. Why not? Well, I suppose you must grow up with it – just like with ketchup – to really appreciate it. It always struck me as an anglo thing. Just a sec – yes, it is, according to Wikipedia. It also mentions a Swiss variety called Älplermagronen. They are boiled with potatoes and eaten with apple sauce. I fear the taste of cheese will still dominate.
I quite like macaroni (how come they lost a c in English?) and don’t mind a piece of cheese now and then, but cheese sauce? You can have mine, if you wish. Bon appétit.
What about today’s colour, though? I suppose you’ll only achieve this with orange cheddar? I do like cheddar, but would never waste it on sauce. I suggest blending the shades of the first and the third house in this image will create said Crayola colour. What do you think?
I’m off to make some Makkaroni (why do we spell them with double-k and not with -cc-? Because we do…) now, because writing about them made me hungry. A little bit of butter and a pinch of salt will be their ideal companions – una bella compagnia! 🙂
